1. How many hours do I have to be enrolled to live in student housing?
Residents must be currently enrolled Darton College and must maintain 12 semester hours (6 semester hours during Summer semester) unless approved by the Housing and Residence Life staff.
2. When is the application deadline?
Darton Commons does not guarantee the availability of a room when the application is received by the Office of Housing and Residence Life. There is not an application deadline; however, we strongly recommend applying early. Once Darton Commons has been filled, you may be placed on a waiting list.
3. When can I move in?
Generally check-in is held one week prior to classes beginning. If accepted into Darton Commons housing, you will receive an acceptance letter a couple of weeks after you turn in your application. We will mail out check-in information approximately the first week of July.
4. What is the Damage/Reservation deposit and Application fee?
A $200 damage/reservation deposit is required in order for an application to be processed. The deposit will be kept until the period of residency has ended. A refund will be issued if all conditions of the contract have been met and after deductions have been made for damages or special cleaning, if needed.
5. Do I have to have a meal plan?
All resident students are required to have a meal plan. You will have a choice of a plan of 19 meals per week ($1237), 14 Meals per week ($997), or 10 Meals per week ($744).
6. How are roommate assignments made?
Assignments are made in the following priority order: (1) GPA, Class Standing, and/or SAT Scores, (2) Returning residents, (3) Date of receipt of application and reservation fee, (4) Specific request of an applicant. The Darton Housing Management, LLC staff is committed to a policy of nondiscrimination. When the name of a roommate is not expressed, Student Housing will assign individuals without regard to race, creed, or national origin.
7. Are the apartments Co-ed?
Individual apartments are gender specific, however, halls are co-ed.
8. Can I have pets?
Due to health, safety, and sanitary concerns, no pets are allowed in the apartments. Small aquariums (10 gallons or less) with fish only, may be kelp in an apartment, provided it is free of leaks and all roommates agree.
9. What is included in the rent fee?
Rent includes basic furnishings, utilities, cable, and internet services.
10. Can I bring a bicycle with me?
Yes. In fact, we are placing bicycle racks across campus, and encourage you to bring a bicycle. You will need to have a chain and lock for your bike.
11. Can freshman have a car on campus?
All students are allowed to have a car on campus as long as it is registered and the proper decal is displayed.
